Your Top 25 Dive Resolutions for 2020

It goes without saying that scuba diving can be a little addictive. What begins innocently enough quickly morphs into a consuming passion that puts demands on your time and travel budget.

And what’s the one thing we all have in common? Our extensive dive bucket lists.

Maybe it’s to dive with sea turtles, spot a hammerhead or explore the ruins of a WWII wreck in the South Pacific. But whatever your next big diving goal is in 2020, we’d like to encourage you to surrender to your wanderlust. Buy that plane ticket, get some new gear, and let 2020 be the year you finally accomplished that thing you’ve always wanted to do.

We at Oceanic have plenty of bucket-list items ourselves, so we were curious what you—our fellow divers and community members—have marked on your to-do lists for 2020. We asked that question recently on our social media channels, and here’s what you all had to say:

1) Thomas Hansen, Oslo, Norway – Cave diving in Mexico and Salttrauman in Norway

2) Nikki Accott – Become an instructor 😊

3) Rick Hillier, Kitchner, Ontario – I’m hoping that I will still be able to dive come the end of 2020.

4) Trevor Miller, Stephenage, United Kingdom – Continue to enjoy great diving that our UK seas have. I also enjoy diving abroad, but the UK has such varied diving adventures 👍

5) Benje Comans, Sydney, Australia – Same. More cave diving. Trips to the G!

6) Tammy Storm, Owensburg, Kentucky  – Putting more hours on my Prism 2

7) Ariel Munoz, Coronado, California – I want to redo a harbour cleanup that was a less than positive experience last year. If that goes well, I’m going a step further and go on my first out-of-country dive or or complete my rescue diver course before 2020 is over.

 8) Joe Johnson, East Rochester, New York – I’m an instructor, so this year I’m getting all of my siblings and son certified. Then set up with some awesome gear. Then take them all out to see sharks so they pee their wetsuits. Bc 95% do and the other 5 are liars.

9) Alejandro Leal, Tijuana, Mexico – Dive in the great barrier reef and coral sea later this year. With my new atomic t3 regulator I want to buy to release it in those waters.

10) William Drumm, Denver, Colorado – Get an Atomic Aquatics BC2!!

11) Benjamin Iglesias, Kihei, Hawaii – Another 500 dives this 2020

12) William Drumm, Denver, Colorado – Do more local dives in Colorado!

13) William Brewton – I would love to get my open water certification finally

14) Terry Byworth – To get back into diving!

15) Mary Truesdale, Newbourne, Florida – My son is doing his open water certification in March. He’s very excited to get to do 2 ocean dives.

16) Noah Staten – To start! But I don’t have the money for training and equipment

17) Josef Fojtik, Houston, Texas – I want to knock out 2 out-of country dive destinations

18) Jeremy Kuronya – 2020 goals: to find a sunken treasure

19) Jon Mead, Good Heart, Michigan – As many wrecks as possible, intro to tech, nitrox

20) Dennis Goodwin, Montara, California – More more more

21) Robb Roidt, Two Rivers, Wisconsin – To improve myself and inspire others to join the world of diving. Each dive I do, anywhere I do it, it’s an adventure

22) Patricia Dawn Patterson, Courtenay, British Columbia – Hawaiian Islands! The night dive with manta rays is breathtaking, so I‘ve read and I’m saving up for September plus I hope to take my adventure open water course there as well

23) Sam Morse, Salt Lake City, Utah – I want to finally see a Manta Ray!! I just missed one in Mexico, so 2020 is the year!

24) Linda Dougherty – I would love to dive any destination where I could see a whale shark

25) Mike Maksimik, Plainfield, Illinois – Not to allow my gear get dry!
