Here are Your Favorite Local Dives (not bars)

Many of you are probably stuck indoors right about now. We feel your pain.

But when push comes to shove, it’s important for all of us to make decisions that are in alignment with public health best practices, which restricts most or all travel, especially in large groups (planes, trains, buses).

Governments around the world have already put some travel restrictions in place. Over the coming weeks, the ability to enjoy local activities that aren’t dependent on large groups will become more and more important.

This is why Huish Outdoors has decided to create the #WEDIVELOCAL campaign.

To kick things off, we recently asked you to tell us more about your favorite close-to-home dive sites. And the responses flooded in. Why get on a plane (especially now) when there is so much good diving at the local level?

So grab a (healthy) dive buddy, gas up your rig and head to one of the local recommendations below:

Your Favorite Local Dives

Mark House: Not a chance, it’s way too good to have it spoiled by a load of divers coming and taking over my piece of r&r. Love where I live #northcornwall

Stephen Collins: Salty Divers , great boat great Shark Dives , Jupiter, Florida, Drift Diving

José Luís Vasconcelos: Molnar Janos Cave. For sure.

Peter Den Haan: Casino Point, Catalina Island, CA!

Scott Cadreau: Lake Pleasant near Phoenix, AZ. This is a great training location as it has a lot of shoreline and easy access to depth in some areas. With a boat, you can get to the old submerged dam that will give you a max depth of about 280′ so I can train Adv Trimix students without travel.

Alan Keller: Lake Minnewanka, Banff National Park, Alberta,

Danny Tong: Seattle, WA. We have Puget Sound as our playground! So many sites to name but Seacrest Park is the go-to place for most dive shops to train people and get them OW certified. And for night dives, we have GPO’s and harbor seals to keep us company! 🙂

Eric Alo: Humber Bay… the best local diving the GTA has to offer 😜

Steve Gloyn: Port Noarlunga, Adelaide, South Australia. Absolute gem, 20 minutes from the CBD. Great reef, enclosed areas for training, and lots of life.

Mickey Limon: Coron, always! Coron Divers thank you 🙏 over and over again 🙂

Giehl Olaf: Love my local dive site Molnár János Cave 😍👍👌Perfect for cave, DPV and Trimix training. 7 km of lines installed, max depth of 90 m and 27 degrees water 365 days a year.

Gunther Gonzalez Echeverry: Deep blue diving in El Coco Beach, North Pacific, Costa Rica

Art Long: Lake Jocassee in upstate SC. They have several areas to dive in that are great for open water divers to trimix diving.

Krystal Janicki: Vancouver island. The sea lions!!! The giant pacific octopus galore! Stubby squid, lump suckers, and oh the colour of sponges and anemones with pinks, whites and oranges ! I couldn’t pick one site. There are so many that have such incredible encounters and life of vibrancy

Daniel Moeller: Spiegel Grove, French reef, Molasses reef, it’s nice to live on Key Largo.

Mike Keyes: Boat diving near the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State Puget Sound. The crew of the Bandito took good care of us. Lots to see.

Doug Whitehead: Dutch springs in Allentown Pennsylvania lots of attractions for divers to play in and for non divers they have a water park

William Drumm: Kinda limited in Denver, but Chatfield Ponds is probably my favorite. There are a lot of bass, carp, crayfish, and plenty of trash fish to see 🙂
