OCi Blackout

The “i” stands for Incredible. The Oceanic OCi is an advanced all-in-one dive computer featuring Oceanic’s exclusive Dual Algorithm, wireless air-integration, digital compass, and so much more.  All in a strong, lightweight housing.

Introducing the OCi. For the diver that wants it all. We mean that literally. The OCi represents the next step forward in recreational wireless air-integrated dive computers from Oceanic. We’ve combined the technology of our advanced OC1, the styling of our best selling OCS and some new features into one incredibly capable dive computer. Not only is the OCi powered by our ground breaking Dual Algorithm technology but it can handle up to 4 gases, calculate nitrogen during a freedive (in the new tech free mode), enable you to select between salt or fresh water and it even automatically adjusts your altitude. The customizable alarms and digital compass are just icing on the cake. Oh and let’s not forget that it functions pretty well as a watch too. Feature for feature the OCi has no competition.

  • Powered by Oceanic’s Exclusive Dual Algorithm™ – Your choice between Pelagic DSAT (Spencer/Powell data basis) or Pelagic Z+ (Buhlmann ZHL-16C data basis)

Oceanic OCi Dive Computer – www.simplyscuba.com

No dive computer is much fun if you have to struggle to set it and use it — especially if it’s one with as many features as the new OCI, with its four-gas air integration and dual algorithms. Fortunately, not only are the OCI’s features very good in themselves, they’re also designed in a straightforward, intuitive manner that makes them a snap to access, set and understand. The dive display is well laid out and easy to see, with depth and NDL, gas selection, pressure and time remaining, tissue loading and variable-ascent-rate bar graphs, as well as useful data on the alternate screens. The four-button navigation makes sense even before you read the manual (which is also good), and the wide, stainless buttons operate with a reassuring click. The menu navigation makes it easy to set and select gases, or choose between the more-liberal DSAT and more-conservative Z+ algorithms (choice displayed in surface mode). You access the digital compass with one push and stow it with one more. Those who like digital compasses that look like analog pointers might not care for the OCI’s, but it gets the job done. The OCI has enough features that you’ll have to play around a while to explore them all (like nitrogen calculations in tec-free-dive mode), but it’s easy to wander through the menu. Test divers found a lot to like about the OCI — from its data display and presentation to its backlight — and several considered it perhaps the most stylish of the wristwatches. The Oceanic OCI is our Testers’ Choice for this category.

SIMPLY SCUBA

The Oceanic OCi is a full decompression watch size dive computer with wireless air integration that is packed full of features and technology including digital compass, dual algorithm, three gas switching, connectivity with up to three wireless transmitters and dot matrix display.

The OCi uses a composite material housing with a reinforcing steel back case and front bezel to significantly reduce the overall weight of the computer without compromising on strength. An intuitive menu system makes excellent use of the four push buttons for navigation through the menus whilst the split LCD and dot matrix display clearly display the menu options.

In the water the OCi provides a complete solution for recreational and more advanced divers with wireless connectivity with up to three optional transmitters for monitoring of primary as well as secondary gases when switching to high oxygen content mixes for accelerated decompression. A handy digital compass allows for quick reference and navigation and supports bearing markers, auto home navigation as well as regional adjustment.

The OCi has a huge amount of alert and notification configuration, especially when used with an optional wireless transmitter.Alerts are displayed on screen and as audible beeps but also as visual flashes using an LED mounted below the screen to act as another means of attracting you attention to important information for instructions.

There are three key differences that the OCi and other Oceanic dive computers have over other models and brands:

  • Dual algorithm technology
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Firmware Updates

The Oceanic dual algorithm technology allows divers to switch between two fully recognised decompression models to safely maximise the dive times depending on the type of diving and who they are diving with:

  • Pelegic DSAT is the model that the PADI RDP table and the vast majority of other dive computers are based upon. It is perfect for repetitive, multi-level diving that you’d experience on a liveaboard or other diving holiday and provides consist dive times through the trip.
  • Pelagic Z+ gives divers the option of maximising dive time at depth, safely give more bottom time at the deepest point on one-off dives. Using this model for repetive, multi-level dives will result in a steady loss of dive time on subsequent dives

Each of these models can be modified using a conservatism factor. This is very useful for a buddy pair that use different dive computers, allowing the diver with the Oceanic computer to modify the behavior of their unit to give a very similar dive profile to the other diver.

Oceanic dive computers are covered by a lifetime warranty as long as the unit is taken into an authorised dealer for a battery change every 12 months. The battery itself will be supplied fee of charge under the warranty, just leaving a small labour charge. If the computer fails through a manufacturing problem at any point 2, 5, 10, 20 years later it is covered under the warranty.

The Oceanic OCi supports firmware updates, allowing owners to automatically update their units by connecting it to a PC using the supplied interface and Oceanlog software. These updates can include new features, functions, menu updates, optimisations, etc.
